Flathead Lake in Summer: A July and August Group Trip
July and August are when Flathead Lake is at its best: long days, clear water and Glacier National Park's high country open for the season. The Evergreen is a six-bedroom home in Somers, near the north end of the lake, that sleeps 14+. It gives a family or friend group one house to come back to after beach days, boat days and Glacier days, with a hot tub, barrel sauna, fire pit, speakeasy and game room waiting.

Why July and August are peak Flathead Lake season
Summer is when most visitors come to Flathead Lake. The water is at its warmest, though it stays cool and refreshing even in August. Days are long enough for a morning on the water, an afternoon in Bigfork or Polson and a sunset back at the house. Glacier National Park's higher roads and trails are usually open by July, which makes it easy to combine lake time and mountain time in one trip.
Because summer is the busiest season in the valley, lodging that fits a whole group fills early. If your dates are set, check the live calendar sooner rather than later.
Lake days using public access
The Evergreen is about eight minutes from the lake by car. The house does not have private or deeded lake access, so guests use Flathead Lake's public parks, beaches, ramps and marinas. Somers Beach State Park is the closest, with a gravel beach on the north shore. Wayfarers State Park near Bigfork has swimming, picnic areas and a boat ramp. West Shore State Park and Wild Horse Island, reachable only by boat, round out a classic summer list.
If you are bringing your own boat, the driveway fits three vehicles plus a trailer. Montana requires aquatic invasive species inspections for watercraft, so build that step into your launch day. Rentals and charters are available from marinas around the lake.
Glacier, Whitefish and Bigfork in summer
Glacier National Park's west entrance is under an hour from the house. In peak summer the park may use a vehicle reservation system for some areas, and Going-to-the-Sun Road conditions change through the season, so check the National Park Service before you go. An early start helps on popular trails and at busy pullouts.
The town of Whitefish, about 30 minutes north, has a walkable downtown, Whitefish Lake and summer activities at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Bigfork, on the northeast shore of the lake, has a small village worth an afternoon; our Bigfork guide covers what to do there.
Coming home after a summer day
The Evergreen has six bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms with flexible sleeping arrangements, including a bunk room. The open kitchen and long dining table make group dinners easy after a day out. In the evening, most groups end up outside: the back deck has a covered hot tub and barrel sauna, and the stone fire pit sits under string lights and tall pines, with giant games on the patio.
On a hot afternoon or a rare rainy day, the game room has arcade cabinets, a pool table, foosball and air hockey, and the private speakeasy has a poker table. There is a lounge with a puzzle table and a kids climbing gym for younger guests.
A sample summer week from Somers
Arrive, stock the kitchen and spend the first evening around the fire pit. On day two, take the short drive to Somers Beach State Park for a slow lake morning. Give day three to Glacier National Park with an early start. Spend day four in Whitefish, then save a day for a boat rental, a charter or a paddle from a public launch. Leave one day open for the hot tub, the game room and whatever the group votes for.
Summer weather on the lake can shift in the afternoon, so plan time on the water for the morning and keep an eye on the forecast.
Planning a July or August stay
Choose your dates first, then plan the big days around them: a lake day, a Glacier day and a town day are a good starting rhythm for a week. Book any boat rentals, charters or Glacier vehicle reservations as early as the providers allow. The house is a vacation home for your group, not an event venue; parties and events are not permitted.
